Willamette River After Work - Island Park to Alton Baker
This will be a quick and fun after-work trip from Island Park to Alton Baker Park with Newt Loken co-leading. This trip features several sections of splashy water. We get the rapids behind roaring rapids pizza, the Cotton Candy rapid, and the section of big waves at the Autzen foot bridge. There are a few smaller rapids that are splashy and fun, but nothing too serious and may present some small surfing opportunities.
This would not be a good choice for a first-time paddler as one will need boat control to navigate the rapids and select your line to stay in deeper tongues of water. One would also need to eddy out so that we can regroup or play.
There is a low head dam on the river at I-5. This dam has a bypass channel that we will be using to go around it. You can see the bypass here: https://goo.gl/maps/SLuCjmrrUo2PVPxW8 (Use satellite view).
Register for this paddle to receive an email with details about the launch, shuttle & takeout.
This is an afterwork paddle and time will be limited, so please be respectful and have your gear ready and IK's inflated quickly to save time.
