McKenzie, Redsides Play Clinic for Beginners, Class 2+

in
Date:
Sunday, July 25

We'll meet at Redsides (Hwy 126 @ mile-post 43) and I plan to get things started around 11am. There is plenty of parking at the log scaling station.  A pink mailbox on the river-side of the highway marks the trail down to the wave.

This clinic is for beginners so the emphasis will be on facial expressions, lounging, and safety (although not necessarily in that order).  A reliable roll is required and a short boat is recommended.  I'll bring a BBQ, so people may want to bring something to cook and lounge chairs.  Spectators are welcome.

Deschutes, Upper Wapinitia to Sandy Beach, class 2+ (3+)

in
Date:
Sunday, August 1

This is the popular "splash and giggle" 10-mile section of the Deschutes.  It includes Upper Wapinita, Lower Wapinitia (Boxcar), Oak Springs Rapid, and Elevator.  See Soggy Sneakers, 4th ed., run # 196 for more details.  It's a long day trip, but you go by Mt. Hood on the way over, get high desert and great whitewater while there, and return through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area, stopping to eat in The Dalles or Hood River (possibly at the Full Sail Brewery).  Note that there is an $8/person fee for the Deschutes River Boater Pass for all weekend days during the summer. Please contact Al early in the week for more details about the trip.
